The Burnaby School Age Initiative is a consortium of community groups and local businesses dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children ages 6 to 12.
We are actively working to increase opportunities for school-aged children to participate in after school activities with the support of positive role models.
LAYING A FOUNDATION FOR LIFE – THE MIDDLE YEARS OF CHILDHOOD
The middle years of childhood, the time between 6 and 12
years of age, is crucial in a young person’s development. It
is the time when the foundation is laid for adolescence and
Research shows that when kids are involved in after school
programs they say they have a greater sense of self-esteem
and they show a greater ability to cooperate and manage their own moods and behaviour.
By providing after school activities that are accessible and appealing to kids, communities help to encourage healthy habits.
